Most of the funding calendar for African founders closes by late July. Y Combinator's Fall batch, MEST's fellowship, Accelerate Africa, Open Startup International, AWIEF's Pitch n Grow, the iDICE Founders Lab cohort all ended in the last week of July.
Five funding opportunities are open right now, and were verified against their own official pages rather than the aggregator sites that recycle the same call for applications for months after it closes. Two opportunities skew toward growth-stage companies, one is creative-economy specific, one is regional, and one is a rolling incubation programme with no hard deadline at all. Here's the list, what it takes to qualify, and where to apply.
1. Google for Startups Accelerator: South Africa
Deadline: August 28, 2026
Google is backing 10 to 15 growth-stage, South African-led startups with up to R1 million each in equity-free funding, no cash for equity, no fee to join. The program runs September to December 2026 and leans hard toward technical teams. Google wants a CTO or technical lead who can commit to the full ten weeks, and it prioritizes startups already using machine learning or AI in their product, not just planning to.
This isn't a pre-seed program. Google is explicit that it's looking for startups with existing traction and a defensible growth model, not a raw idea. If that's you, the application is a straightforward Google Form, no pitch deck upload gymnastics.

2. Google for Startups Accelerator: Middle East, North Africa and Turkey
Deadline: August 31, 2026
If your startup is registered in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, or elsewhere in North Africa, this is the sister program to watch. It's a ten-week, equity-free accelerator for Seed to Series A startups, with the same technical bar as the South Africa cohort, i.e., strong CTO involvement, AI/ML preferred, real traction required. Selected startups also get access to up to $350,000 in Google Cloud and Firebase credits.
This is actually the second cohort Google has run this year for the region; the first closed back in January. So if you missed that round, or your startup has only recently hit the traction bar, this is a genuine second shot, not a recycled deadline.

3. Founders Fund Africa: Creative Economy Accelerator
Deadline: August 28, 2026
This is a new one. Chocolate City Group, the Nigerian entertainment company, launched a $1 million fund in partnership with Argentil Capital Management and CcHUB, and just opened applications for its first cohort. It's aimed squarely at founders building in music, film and media, design, and creative tech across Africa, not artists or creative service providers, but startups with a scalable product or platform in those spaces.
Selected founders get $20,000 to $50,000 as a convertible note, plus mentorship and investor-readiness support. Unlike the Google programs, this one is early-stage friendly. There's no revenue floor stated, and the emphasis is on potential to scale rather than existing traction.

4. Milken-Motsepe Prize in Circular Economy
Deadline: August 13, 2026
The biggest prize pool on this list at $2 million total, including a $1 million Grand Prize, but also the hardest bar to clear. This isn't for startups; it's for scale-ups. Milken Institute and the Motsepe Foundation are looking for companies with more than two years of continuous operation, over $500,000 in revenue and raised capital, and a circular-economy solution already deployed somewhere in Africa across agriculture, plastics, electronics, textiles, or construction.
Ten semifinalists get $50,000 each just for advancing, five finalists get another $50,000, and the eventual winner takes the $1 million. If your venture is past the early stage and already reducing waste or extending material life cycles at commercial scale, this is worth the application effort.

5. UNDP timbuktoo Launchpad
Rolling applications, next cohort starts September 2026
This is the only program on this list with no hard deadline. UNDP's timbuktoo Creatives Hub is running an ongoing incubation programme for CreativeTech startups, which include digital content, gaming, animation, music, film, design, immersive tech, and AI-enabled creative tools. Admission happens through quarterly cohorts, so there's always a next intake to aim for.
It's not a cash grant. What you get is structured incubation through accredited African incubators, mentorship, and access to the Seedstars SIGMA platform for investment readiness. If you're building in the creative-tech space and aren't quite ready for the Founders Fund Africa deadline above, this is a lower-pressure entry point with recurring windows.
